The Marathi New Year
Gudi Padwa marks the Marathi New Year, the first day of Chaitra Navaratri — a Gudi (a bright cloth atop a bamboo pole, topped with a kalash and neem leaves) is raised outside homes for prosperity, followed by rangoli, new clothes and a shared meal of neem-jaggery and puran poli.
